Massages

Head Massage (Shiro Abhyanga)
In the Head Massage, oil is applied to the head where it is absorbed into the scalp through the roots of the hair. The effects of this massage include improved blood circulation to the head and relaxation of the muscles and nerve fibers. This helps to refresh both the mind and the body, relieving tension and fatigue and improving the complexion. Massaging the head increases the prana, the subtle aspect of the Vata dosha energy to the body.

Facial Massage (Muka Abhyanga)
With each smooth stroke of the masseur’s hand on the face, subtle tensions underneath the skin are released. This intricate massage activates deep centres of the brain, reflex points, energy meridians, and facial circulation to totally soothe the body. Tensions in the neck, shoulders, and face are freed and energy is rebalanced from head to toe. Pressure points work on deeper tissues or reflexively on associated organ systems.

Whole Body Massage (Abhyanga)
The Whole Body Massage is always given with different type of oil depending on the body type (i.e. vata, pitta, kapha or a combination). It is very beneficial for general rejuvenation, skin and musculoskeletal conditioning or problems such as obesity, body aches and pain.

Neck and Shoulder Massage (Grivia / Skandah Abhyaga)
Special herbal oil is applied to the neck and the shoulder to release muscular spasms, rheumatic pain and stress-related conditions as the neck and the shoulder area is so often stiff and tense.

Chest Massage (Vaksha Abhyanga)
This is a special massage performed on the chest area. Its benefits include; stimulating the heart, increasing circulation, stimulating the capillaries of the blood vascular system and stimulating the lungs.

Arm Massage (Baahu Abhyanga)
Headaches, neck pain and aching shoulders or tired hands can all be caused by tension in the arms. Massaging the arms helps the arms and shoulders to relax, and can alleviate many of these problems.

Hand Massage (Hastha Abhyanga)
The Hand Massage works deeply by stimulating acupuncture points and energy meridians that run through the hands to the tips of the fingers. And, like foot reflexology, the hand has areas that are associated with the various organs and systems within the body. This helps the body deal more easily with the extra toxins that you release through the hand massage.

Leg Massage (Pada Abhyanga)
By stimulating the circulation, massage brings blood and nutrients to the legs and helps to prevent varicose veins. More active people can use leg massage as a warm-up before exercise and to get rid of tightness or cramp in the muscles afterwards. Deep, firm massage on the large muscles will help to dispel fatigue. Gentle stroking up the legs towards the lymph nodes can help to reduce puffiness or swelling.

Foot Massage (Pada Abhyanga) with Foot Bath (Padavagaha)
During the Foot Massage, special attention is focused on the “tender spots”. This massage produces a reflect effect on the internal organs as well as creating a combined soothing and invigorating effect. Massaging the feet prevents and cures dryness, numbness, roughness, fatigue, and cracking of the heels. It is wonderful for relieving acute pain, improving posture, as well as health of the organs.

Back Massage (Paschima Abhyanga)
The massage is performed with “pain reducing herbal oils” on the back and along the spine. The Back Massage can have profoundly relaxing effect, lowering stress levels, easing pain and inducing a blissful state of repose.

Multiple Joint Massage
A special massage with herbal oil is performed on multiple joints.  Its main purpose is to relieve aches, pains and stiffness in the joints.

Massage with Peeling Effects (Udvartana)
A type of body massage with special medicated oil or with a paste made of ground grains, which cleanses the skin and increases circulation in the body. It promotes weight loss and clears away skin-clogging impurities that might cause problems such as cellulite. This is especially effective in obesity.

Herbal Bags (Upanaha Sweda)
This external application of herbs, milk rice or grains is used to treat swellings, pains, colds and ‘flus. A small bag with this preparation, thoroughly steamed, is applied hot over the affected area.

Herbal Steam Partial Treatment (Nadi Sweda)
Direct, regulated steam is applied to localised areas to relieve pain by means of a special apparatus.

Herbal Steam Full Treatment (Pinda Sweda)
This involves a special procedure of sudation. It induces sweat, removes stiffness of joints and makes the body supple. It also cleanses the body channels, leaving you  invigorated and restored.

Nasal-Inhalation (Nasya)
This treatment consists of inhalation of medicated vapour.  It is used to treat various conditions.

Nasal Theraphy (Nasya)
Nasya is a nasal administration of medicated powders or liquid drops. The powders or drops can be of a calming nature that helps to promote sleep or relaxation, or more cleansing and stimulating in nature, or purely nutritive. Here we use liquid drops that are more cleansing in action. By cleansing we mean cleansing the sinus cavities but also clearing the area of the head and neck of excess Vata energy, which is usually responsible for causing pain and tension.

Eye Treatments

Eye Effusion (Netrapindi)
This treatment uses special medicated eye packs which soothe irritated eyes, and nourishes and relaxes tired eyes. It is a deep acting treatment so it is important that it be done in a calm, quiet, protected environment with care and support.

Eye Bath (Akshitarpana)
The special eye-bath nourishes the eyes and enhances eye sight.

Facials (Mukaubtan)
To cleanse, moisturise and soothe the skin.

Mouthwash (Kavala Grah)
Kavala Grah means a comfortable amount of medicated fluid thereby rendering gargling impossible. This is very effective in preventing caries, strengthening the gums and cleansing the mouth.

Pichu
Cotton wool soaked in warm medicinal oil and then applied to the affected part of the body with a dressing. It is very effective in relieving pain, inflammation and stiffness of joints.

Kati Vasti
Warm medicated oil is poured over the lower back area, and caught in a trough of dough.  After removing the oil & the trough, the area is massaged to enhance the effects. This is excellent for relieving aches, pains & stiffness.

Piccichil
Piccichil is a very special form of massage that involves the continuous dripping of oil onto the body of the patient from pieces of cloth dipped in oil, as the masseur massages the body with gentle strokes. It must be done under supervision.

Alepa (Medicinal herb plaster)
Alepa is a special application to relieve bodily aches & pains. This plastering procedure may also be used for the entire body in order to restore the “doshas” to normalcy and to promote complete rejuvenation of the body.  It will relieve bodily stiffness and aches & pains.  It is also good for reducing pain & burning sensations of the skin.

Body Wrap (Shariira Ubtan)
Specially prepared herbal paste is applied all over the body to revitalize bodily tissues.
