  Who can do Yoga

Yoga is one of India's wonderful gifts to mankind. It builds up a store of physical health through the practice of a system of exercises called asanas, which keep the body cleansed and fit. Yoga stresses on the importance of exercise for the speedy removal of toxins for blood circulation and for the smooth functioning of all internal processes.

Having dealt with the physical side of life, Yoga turns to the mental. It concentrates on different breathing exercises or techniques to quieten the mind.

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root "yuj" meaning to join or yoke, implying the integration (or joining) of every aspect of a human being. Another frequently used definition of yoga is that of a union of the individual spirit with the universal, since that is considered to be its highest aim.

Towards physical well-being

Yoga is an ineffable art, which however, is supported by a very logical philosophy. Only by practice does one experience the effects the various asanas and pranayamas have on the body, mind and spirit. Why the body becomes supple and efficient through yoga can be easily understood. Why and how yoga affects the mind is not so immediately apparent.
